About Me

My maternal grandmother (a nurse) was first diagnosed with breast cancer at age 55, her treatment plan included a lumpectomy and radiation therapy, and she went into remission for over 10 years. At age 68, other cancers (including a brain tumor) were discovered, and she died just before her 70th birthday. My mother found a lump at age 47, followed a similar treatment plan, and has now been in remission for 6 years. I am a 31 year old healthy, active woman, but due to the history, have already had mammograms and ultrasounds done on suspect spots. Neither I nor my 24-yr old sister have been tested for the BRCA1 gene, but we both take this matter very seriously, and hope medical advances will continue to improve. I write this blog under M. Beth Parker, a form of my grandmother’s maiden name, in her honor.

My goal with this site has always been to look at breast cancer news & the serious issues that surround the disease with a light hearted approach, focusing on celebrities who support the cause, fun breast cancer fundraising events and especially to help others discover pink ribbon products with a purpose. There are several organizations out there that ask people to “Think Before You Pink” – a sentiment which I absolutely agree with when shopping for pink ribbon products for breast cancer awareness. I do my best to always find and support companies who detail their donations or specify proceeds from every product goes to breast cancer awareness organizations and research foundations, and pass that information on to my readers. Occasionally, that information may not be available or provided, but I’ve still chosen to link to the product because it is a cute or original item which might offer a breast cancer patient or survivor comfort in another way.

This site also raises money via advertising (as you may have noticed). A portion of proceeds from my site gets donated typically to a “local” breast (or general) cancer support organization – which I personally prefer because you know where the money might be going. With the major national charities getting the bulk of the funds in the name of “research”, which I believe is important, I personally have found the support services of the Patrick Dempsey Center For Cancer Hope & Healing to be therapuetic, as they support both cancer patients and caregivers in a very unique and personal way. Patrick’s mother has battled ovarian cancer, and now, his sister Mary, is an amazing soul who runs the center now – read more about what they do in my previous post about the center.
