One of my all time favorite activities is getting together with my girlfriends to enjoy a couple glasses of good wine on a regular basis. Plus, there’s evidence that a moderate amount of red wine can reduce your risk of breast cancer. So, I say, in the name of research and prevention, go forth and drink wine to win the battle against breast cancer! Here are some of my think pink wine product picks for 2009, the first being from breast cancer survivor and celebrity figure skater, Peggy Flemming:

A personal message from Peggy Fleming:

This year, I am celebrating my 57th birthday with the release of Fleming Jenkins Victories Rose. Created by my husband, Greg Jenkins, and me specifically to raise funds for breast cancer research, this wine supports a cause that has touched us personally. 100% of the net profits after taxes of this and future vintages of Victories Rose will be donated to charities supporting the cause, including The V Foundation for Cancer Research and the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center at Georgetown University, both 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations. In 1998, on the 30th anniversary of my 1968 Olympic victory, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. For me, it was another Olympics, a life Olympics.

Early detection saved my life. And I believe that my lifelong dedication to health, fitness and personal accomplishment also played an important role in my victory. I was one of the lucky ones, and I am grateful. I decided to share my hopes, my fears and my triumph with people around the world. I hope my story will be an inspiration to anyone facing breast cancer, and that I will be one of the strong symbols of the victories that can be achieved against life’s greatest challenges. We must never give up hope. Please join us in the quest for a cure, with a purchase of Victories Rose. Victories is presented in a stunning magnum (1.5 liter) bottle and packaged in a commemorative hand-crafted wooden box. Greg and I thank you for your support and generosity. Buy it now – $99

Other Wine Labels Donating to Breast Cancer Organizations:

Red Wine by 2 Brothers from Chile, South America. This wine comes from two brothers, Alex, a wine importer, and Erik, a tattoo artist, who wanted to pay homage, in a non-serious way, to their late mother who suffered from cancer. They decided to label and bottle their own wine and donate the proceeds to a good cause. With their combined talents and effort, they created Big Tattoo Red. For every bottle sold, 50 cents is being donated to the Arlington, Virginia Hospice and a breast cancer research foundation in the name of Liliana S. Bartholomaus. Introduced in the Winter of 2002, sales from Big Tattoo Wines has raised over $850,000 for charity. Several varietals available, from $9.99-$13.29 shop now>>

  1. [...] When thinking of famous Olympic athletes affected by breast cancer, your mind might first make a double axel jump to Olympic figure skater Dorothy Hamill (one of my skating heros as a little girl – yes, I had the haircut) who underwent treatment for breast cancer in 2008. Peggy Flemming, one of her rivals, was also diagnosed with breast cancer in 1998, and now has created a wine to raise money for breast cancer research. [...]
