Because it’s the first Sunday in October, I have to highlight everything the NFL is doing to promote breast cancer awareness month. This month, you’ll see the NFL promoting breast cancer awareness and research fundraising efforts in a variety of ways, from NFL.com:
Our campaign, “A Crucial Catch”, in partnership with the American Cancer Society, is focused on the importance of annual screenings, especially for women who are over the age of 40. Throughout October, NFL games will feature players, coaches and referees wearing pink game apparel to raise awareness for the campaign, as well as on-field pink ribbon stencils and special K-balls and pink coins. All apparel worn at games by players and coaches and special K-balls and pink coins will auctioned off at NFL Auction (www.NFLAuction.NFL.com), with proceeds benefitting the American Cancer Society and team charities.
If you’re a professional football fan (like my husband and I are). I even blogged about how we met Deanna Favre (husband is a huge GREEN BAY fan, born & raised in WI) at an October MNF game in Denver a couple years ago, when she was seated in the section next to us, she spoke to the ESPN crew during the halftime show about the importance of breast cancer awareness month, especially when it comes to the under -discussed topic of male breast cancer. I had even made a sign that was featured on TV during her talk, and I went over and met her, and thanked her for her efforts.
So, in honor of the NFL efforts, today’s Pink Picks feature NFL related pink ribbon products and breast cancer merchandise.
Because I am a New England Patriots fan, the first one has to be:

You can also buy Deanna Favre’s breast cancer book:

Did you know the NHL and MLB also do breast cancer events? The NHL uses pink sticks and raffles them off to raise money for prevention efforts and every Mother’s Day baseball players use pink bats to remind women to get mammograms.
Isn’t it touching to see what men’s sports are doing for a primarily women’s disease?
I have a whole blog post on Breast Cancer Awareness at http://www.teamschwag.com. I’d love if you could take a look at it
Hi there – yes, I love covering what the MLB does in May as well as year round with pink ribbon baseball t-shirts as well! I don’t think that I’ve talked about NHL efforts before, but definitely will look into that further, as well as NBA!
